IS IT A WONDERFUL LIFE?

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I, send me.” (Is. 6:8). This great passage motivates us to go and evangelize. Although the call came specific to the prophet Isaiah, the same call in principle comes to us all. God still cries out, “Who will go for us?” Our response of obedience must always be, “Here am I, send me.” Millions have heard that call and millions have responded. As a result multitudes have come to salvation in Christ. What motivated Isaiah to respond so readily? He “saw the Lord” (6:1). May we see the Lord, be cleansed as the prophet was, then hear God’s call and obediently respond. Millions still wait to hear the gospel from our lips and lives.

James 3:4 talks, in essence, about rudders on ships and how they make ships go where ever the pilot wants it to go. Those ships cannot be steered if they don’t leave the dock. Neither can the lost be saved if we don’t get out and spread the Word. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…and surely I am with you to the end of the age” (Mt. 28:19- 20). Do not be afraid for Jesus is with you and He will glorify Himself thru your efforts. What are you doing for Christ today?

With the New Year comes a new start. Or so it seems. Isn’t this why health and fitness clubs see a peak in their memberships this time of year?? It’s because everyone sees the new year as a way to start afresh. Whether we publicly proclaim our New Year’s resolutions or just keep them to ourselves most of us, if not all of us, make them. It may be as simple as watching less TV or it may be a rededication of their life for the Lord. What ever it may be it is a great time to commit or recommit oneself to something. I would hope that each and every one of us would commit ourselves to a deeper and more spiritual walk with the Lord this year. There isn’t anyone reading this newsletter that can say that their walk with Jesus is where it should be. So why not take this time to recommit yourself and say, “This year I am going to read my bible more” or “This year I’m going to pray more” or “This year I’m going to witness more.” It doesn’t matter if you use one of these examples or one of a virtual infinite number of other things. What matters is that you make some kind of commitment to grow closer to God and let Him lead you in all things. Then you will not be discouraged when you ask yourself, “What have I done for Jesus today?”

Question: When (if) you get to Heaven and are asked, "How did you come to get here?" what will you say? Will your answer have anything to do with your faith in Jesus Christ or will you talk about that final event that lead to your demise? In other words, will your answer be about Him or you?

Ephesians 4:17-19

“So I will tell you, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles [sinners] do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.”

Living apart from grace blinds us to the nature and will of God. We as humans can reason just about anything in order to defend any lifestyle because sin controls reason. Sin hardens our intellectual capacities and leads us away from the life God wants us to live. Sin gives us an all-consuming desire to do what is wrong. By letting our intellect control our lives, we ignore grace and choose a life that will lead to depravity.

2Samuel 23:5
“Is not my house right with God? Has He not made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secure in every part? Will He not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire?”

In 2Samuel, chapter 7, God established and everlasting covenant with David, promising him that He would build him a house – an everlasting dynasty to occupy the throne of Israel. Paul and the other New Testament writers looked back on David as they reflected on the coming of the Messiah. Just as David took comfort in the assurance of God’s unending care and guidance, we can rejoice because God abides with us. God has promised to never forsake us. We can depend on God for help and guidance.

IN THE BEGINNING!

The apostle John tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning." Our minds are a finite thing and cannot grasp this concept. Three "men" in one? How can that be? This is what is known as faith; seeing what cannot be seen and believing what most people consider to be. The idea that God has always been here and was never born is unfathomable to us because, not only do we consider this to be impossible, but our finite minds cannot grasp the concept of someone or something always being and never having a beginning. Everything we know about life has a beginning and an end but God.

Where is your beginning? At your physical birth? Is this life all there is in your life? Where is your end? Praise be to God that we don't know when our end will come about but I find it odd that although no one gets out of here alive most people don't give the afterlife a second thought. How little planning we give our future. I heard a man say once that we give more thought and time to planning our vacation then we do our retirement. I believe this to be true. I also believe this same thing is true when it comes to God and following Christ Jesus. How much time do you give Him? How much time are you willing to invest in Him? He has given us everything and we give him nothing. Do not be shocked when He says to you, "Away from me you evildoer for I never knew you." You will have no one to blame but yourself.
